OF SONGVILLE

A retelling of Daniel Chapters 1-3 in a world of sci-fi and fantasy. Thralldom, a tyrannical regime has conquered a magical and music-loving land called Songville. Danny, Mish, and Hanan, now exiles, rise from captives to high-ranking overseers under the Iron Master’s rule. They faithfully serve their master while secretly pledging allegiance to the true High King and the ways of Songville. However, as tensions rise and the cost of resistance grows, they must decide whether to risk their lives for the sake of faith and what they truly love— or remain silent in the face of tyranny. Behind the Scenes

Pre-production

By then, we had sketched over 900 illustrations for our storyboard, locked our 40-paged script, cast approximately 20 talents (functioning both as cast and crew), secured 5 shooting locations and developed our production schedule.  We had our work cut out for us.

production

Although production is typically a much shorter process than preprod, it is labor intensive. We had 2 weeks to shoot the entire film.   Over 80 production hours later, we had shot 17 scenes.  This amounted to a little over 9 hours of footage that we would have to boil down to a feature length movie.

Pre-production on Stories of Songville lasted 9 months, beginning in early November 2023, right up to the first shoot day in July 2024.

There is a whole lot of "prepin pre-production. Everything has to be planned out before the camera rolls. Planning Stories of Songville was a big task. We had to first create the fictional universe where the story took place. From there, we had to develop the story, then write the screenplay, design costumes, build props, scout shooting locations, organize the production schedule and finally select our cast.

post-production

The final steps of any journey are often the hardest but they can be the most rewarding.  These steps included cutting up the footage, adding visual effects (VFX), mixing audio and sound effects (SFX). It also involved compositing our practical effects models, coloring the footage and working with our composer, Mitchell Groves, to create Stories of Songville's most beautiful, original score.  This post-production process lasted a little over a year. And  it was worth the wait! It was an honor to finally view the premiere of our film on the silver screen on July 1st, 2025, nearly a year from production.
